How Eating Well Can Improve Your Skin

Growing old is inevitable. Time will change our skin, and no one is able to avoid age spots and wrinkles. However, how well your skin ages can have a lot to do with your health, sun and sun tanning exposure, chemicals, soaps, and your nutrition.

Nutrients are necessary for your body to shed old cells and replace them with new ones. Without the right nutrients, your skin won’t feel or look as youthful as it possibly could. Before you turn to anti-wrinkle creams, focus on your diet. Here are a few ways in which your diet can improve your skin.

An Apple a Day…

Most people know that old adage of an apple a day keeps the doctor away. That quote can ultimately link to everyone’s need to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables to remain healthy. Not only can you enjoy better health with a diet rich in vegetables and fruit, but better skin as well.

All manner of fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that prevent cell damage. Carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, and kale, in particular, promote healthy skin cell development more than most.

Vitamin C

If you want to focus on your skin health now and into the future, then make sure you enjoy plenty of vitamin C-rich foods. Blueberries, kiwifruit, oranges, sweet potatoes, and oranges are just a few of the many foods that can offer it. Vitamin C can help to heal blemishes and produce much-needed collagen for elasticity.

Do you suffer from dry, pale, and tired-looking skin? While a decent night’s sleep might help, the more likely culprit is dehydration. Your skin desperately needs water and lots of it. The more water you drink, the more flexible your skin is. Experts recommend a minimum of six to eight glasses daily.

If you struggle to drink enough water, there are several things you can do. Flavour it with natural fruits and vegetables such as lemon, or set an app reminder on your phone. Every time you receive a notification, you will know to drink water. Water can also make you feel more alert and hydrated as it works on your skin.

If you’re on the fence about buying that delicious piece of salmon as a treat for yourself, then go for it. Not only is salmon delicious, but it’s an excellent source of omega 3 for the health of your skin. This fatty acid is not something your body can make, so it relies on you to source it in your food. Omega 3 can help with inflammatory skin conditions for a smoother, more even skin tone.

You would be amazed at how simple changes in your diet can make significant differences in the health of your skin. Whether your skin looks pale, patchy, blotchy, or just not healthy, it’s time to get serious about skincare. Eat more fruits and vegetables, drink more water, and focus on vitamin and mineral content in your food. You’ll have glowing, beautiful skin in no time.
